Mahindra launches the Rexton RX6 variant in India at Rs 19.96 lakh

India's leading UV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has announced the launch of a new variant of its Ssangyong Rexton SUV at a price of Rs 19.96 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The RX6 will serve as a mid-range model, coming with 4-wheel-drive and a five-speed manual gerabox. The car will target more fun-loving off-road enthusiasts who demand all-wheel drive ability and the control of a manual gearbox without losing out on luxury.

"... we continuously take feedback from consumers and update our products to cater to their evolving needs. One such feedback from customers was the need for high end and luxurious features in a manual transmission model," said Vivek Nayer, CMO at Mahindra & Mahindra, in an Economic Times report.

So far the Rexton was available in two variants – RX5 and RX7, the bottom end variant coming equipped with a manual transmission, but skimping on some luxury features, while the top-end variant came only with an automatic transmission.

The Rexton which is assembled by Mahindra at the company's Chakan plant from parts sourced from Ssangyong in Korea, has become India's second best-selling SUV in the sub-Rs 25 lakh segment. Going head to head with the Toyota Fortuner, the company has managed to do well to carve itself a piece of the market.

With the RX6 variant of the Rexton, Mahindra is now hoping to boost sales by appealing to a more enthusiast buyer. Apart from sporting a manual transmission, the car also comes with posh leather upholstery and an electric sun-roof.
