Gladiator-RS/SSGladiator RS / SS
Success rating : Miss
The new Gladiator RS and SS that were launched at the Auto Expo 08 weren't significant by themselves though they did fix a few drawbacks of the previous Gladiator. Yamaha had a great year, but it was no thanks to the Gladiator.

Success rating : Lukewarm hit
Yet another version of the versatile Indigo that Tata launched at the Auto Expo. The significance? It is the first and only sedan that fits into the small car range with a length of less than four meters. With a shock launch pricing of Rs 3.79 lakhs, the CS was a little too close for comfort for the small car market.

Success rating : Hit
The Palio has been around for a while and so has the amazing 1.3 multijet engine, albeit doing service in the Maruti Suzuki Swift. With the Palio 1.3, Fiat finally came into its own again after a long hiatus.

The only launch worth nothing from Bajaj, this year. But even with a few cc moved around, the bike or Bajaj failed to make an impact in 2008.

Volkswagen entered India with the Passat. But with the launch of the Jetta, the company firmly established its big plans for India. With the starting launch price of Rs 12.97 lakhs, the Jetta got rave reviews but the sales are yet to match up.

Success rating : For collectors only
This one is for the collectors and auto trivia buffs. The car that marked Fiats rebirth after World War II got a 21st century makeover and was launched with much fanfare in Italy and was soon available in India too. At 13 lakhs for a small car, it had takers only in those who like to own a bit of history.
