Toyota-Etios
Following its euphoria over its sports utility vehicle Fortuner gains since the launch - 2,500 more orders have been received since booking reopened this month and with total pending deliveries around 6,500 units; and the launch of Corolla Altis diesel variant Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) is now pinning its future on the new small car Etios.
TKM will start sales of Etios from Jan 2011 and expects more than half of its overall sales in India to happen from Etios in 2011. At the moment the petrol variant seems to be in the plan but studies for a diesel version are also afoot. It appears TKM is going to concentrate fully to make Etios its mother brand in the coming days and reports indicate there are no plans to introduce a smaller car than Etios in the Indian market from TKM stable.
The company which has invested Rs 3,200 crore to set up a new facility for production of the small car will produce 7,000 cars in the first year, which can be extended up to 2,00,000 cars per annum in the next two years.
Etios is expected to be retailed for above Rs 5 lakh.
TKM is also looking at exporting the small car from India to various overseas markets, which is likely to start within the next two years.
"Next year, the total sales of the company will be 1,50,000 units, out of which we expect the Etios to be around 67,000 units," TKM Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Sandeep Singh has been quoted in The Economic Times recently.
