Tata-Nano
It is seems Tata Motors is gearing up to spread Nano's wings beyond its home market. Of late, meda reports suggest that India's largest vehiclemaker is drawing up plans to sell Nano in Srilanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh by this year or next. The commercial production of the ultra-cheap car is already in process at Sanand and export of this car will be in addition to the proposed electric version in Europe before 2013, as revealed by a senior official of the company earlier. Even though Tata is facing difficulties in supplying the car to eager customers (in the domestic market) due to production constraints, the company hopes the situation to ease significantly after it ramps up Nano’s production from its new factory in Gujarat from March-April this year. At present Tata Motors is selling Nano through lucky draw due to low production.
Though it could not be officially confirmed, speculation is pretty rife that Sipradi Trading - the authorized distributor of Tata motors in Nepal - is bringing five Nano cars to Nepal in the next few quarters. Since Tata Motors sell vehicles only after testing it locally, Sipradi will accept bookings of Nano only after studying feedbacks from persons who test drive the car for six months, as revealed by 'Myrepublica.com'. The Kathmandu-based distributor has also told PTI that five Tata Nanos are arriving here for the customary test-drive before they are launched.
"The first five cars will be test-driven in different locations in Kathmandu, including hilly terrain and downhill, to gauge the Nano's suitability for Nepal's roads," as revealed by Pravin Khatiwada, head of Sipradi's Passenger Car Business Unit division. He further added, "Tata has promised us that the first Nanos for sale would arrive in the first quarter of 2011, soon after manufacturing begins in full swing at the new Tata plant in Gujarat's Sanand." Though Sipradi said the price has yet not been fixed and bookings have not yet begun, the public anticipation is that the cheapest Nano could cost around Rs.500,000 in Nepal. "We will be selling the Nano at rock-bottom price in Nepal," Khatiwada told the newswire agency.
