Tata Nano to be available off showroom shelves beginning August-September 2010

The expected long wait for Tata Nano car would soon ebb away with the news filtering in that Tata Motors will recommence Nano’s bookings. Not only that, it would be readily available off the showroom shelves, thanks to the Sanand plant in Gujarat.So no advance bookings needed beginning August-September 2010. Deliveries from the plant, including BS4 Tata Nanos, are slated to begin this month and the output supplemented by the facility at Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), will in the immediate phase complete pending orders from the booking process of 2009.

"From this August-September, customers will be able to walk into our showroom and drive out in a Nano," said Manoj Arora, senior manager, Tata Motors while speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of Tata Nano's 'Superdrive' event. The official added that the manufacturing facility at Sanand, Gujarat, which was inaugurated by will help the company deliver cars faster. He further mentioned, "Sananad facility can manufacture 2.5 lakh units per annum." Arora also informed that the company had 'almost finished' the commitment made during the first lot of booking.

Debasis Ray, the official spokesperson of Tata Motors, had very recently told wheelsunplugged.com, “Tata Motors will make appropriate announcements in due course of time. At present, the company is engaged in delivering the cars to the first 100,000 allottees.” He didn’t specify whether the company will continue with Nano’s production in Pantnagar or not.

It may be recalled that Tata Motors’ brand new plant for the Tata Nano at Sanand, in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat, was by the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, in the presence of the Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors, Ratan N. Tata, ministers of the Gujarat Government, top officials, vendor and supplier partners, dealers and associates of the company.The plant’s inauguration marks the culmination of the company’s goal of making the Tata Nano freely available to hundreds of thousands of families, desirous of the car. The capacity of the plant, to begin with, will be 250,000 cars per year to be achieved in phases, and with some balancing is expandable up to 350,000 cars per year. Further capacity expansion has also been provided for in this location.
