YES-Award-Ceremony
Honda Motor India gave away the Third Young Engineers and Scientists’ (YES) awards in India to fifteen students from India’s premier institutes for science & technology - Indian Institute of Technology. It is to be mentioned that the YES awards were instituted in 2008 to encourage & support young Indian engineers and scientists and are supported by Honda Foundation, Japan.
The Chief Guest, Prof. M. S. Swaminathan, UNESCO Cousteau Chair in Ecotechnology presented the awards to the students in recognition of their outstanding performance in Academics.
Also present on the occasion were Samir Brahamachari, director CSIR who is also the chief assessor this year; Tatsuya Natsume, director, Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India and Jnaneswar Sen, vice-president - Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India.
The YES Award initiative of Honda Foundation has been facilitated by Honda Motor India Pvt. Ltd., to foster young students who have excelled in the area of science and technology and continue to aspire for higher academic achievement in the area of Eco-Technology. Through this initiative, Honda Foundation will grant financial aid to the winning students and also give them an opportunity to pursue trainings or higher professional education, in Japan.
A cash scholarship of US$ 3,000, was presented to fifteen students selected from seven IITs - Delhi, Bombay, Roorkee, Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur & Guwahati on the basis of their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), technical papers, essays and finally their performance in the one-on-one interviews. All the YES Award recipients may claim the ‘Yes Award Plus’ scholarship of US$ 10,000 if they are admitted to, and join postgraduate (master or doctoral) study in the designated Japanese universities, within three years of having received the YES Award.
Talking about YES Awards, Mr. Tatsuya Natsume, Director, Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India said, "This is the third year since Honda started the YES Awards program in India and we are very excited to see the response from so many young scholars of the country. This programme has grown from the initial 3 IITs in the pilot phase to 7 IITs now. As we move on, we plan to add more institutes under this program and also introduce new initiatives to widen the scope of the awards."
The awardees for YES awards in India 2010 are:Antarctic Bothale (IIT Mumbai), Anasuya Mandal (IIT Mumbai), Jay Parikh (IIT Mumbai), Divya Puliani (IIT Delhi), Ridhi Chaudhary (IIT Delhi), Rohit Singh Sahani (IIT Delhi), Shameek Ganguly (IIT Guwahati), C. Anand Vijay Kartha (IIT Guwahati), Anand Vardhan Mishra (IIT Kanpur), Aditya Sood (IIT Kanpur), Avishek Banerjee (IIT Kharagpur), Rasna Goenka (IIT Kharagpur), Vinay Prashanth Subbiah (IIT Madras), Suvinay Subramanian (IIT Madras), Arindam Mishra (IIT Roorkee).
The YES Award in India program is designed to strengthen Japanese ties with India through provision of financial aid to young Indian researchers and engineers to encourage specialized study in eco-technology as well as provide an opportunity to acquire higher professional education in Japan. It is in line with Honda Foundation’s attempt for an environmentally balanced development of the industrial and science based civilization encouraging specialized study in eco-technology.

Formation of HMI is part of the overall strategy to strengthen, integrate and create operational synergy amongst the Honda subsidiaries in India, especially in areas like Parts Operations, Warehousing and Logistics that can give customer friendly, competitive advantage to Honda in the market place.
