Tata-Xover
As per the latest information trickling in from the Tata Motors camp, the company will be launching three new products at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. In addition to that Tata Motors has also said that it will launch a Jaguar-branded luxury saloon.
Thought more details have not been revealed, media reports reveal that one of them would be a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) - 'Indicruz’-whose international version was unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show. The product was earlier undergoing testing at the Tata Motors European Technical Centre, the company’s research and development (R&D) outfit in UK and also at the Engineering Research Centre (ERC) at Pune — and is likely to be launched sometime next year.
According to sources, extensive testing of the prototypes is currently underway in western India. Once launched in the domestic market, the CUV is expected to be priced Rs. 6-8 lakh, and will be pitted against Mahindra Xylo, Toyota Innova, and Chevrolet Tavera, which are positioned in the same segment. The car is understood to be a crossover between Indigo sedan and Safari SUV and is believed to be based on the recently-launched Indica Vista platform, for which the company is said to have pumped in Rs. 1, 700 crore (as reported earlier).
It is believed that Tata Motors is also ready with the next iteration of its long-serving hatchback, the Indica. The new Indica will be called the Tata Indica Vista Ignis, which will be fitted with a 1.4-litre, 95bhp petrol engine, which is rumoured to deliver a mileage of around 16.5km/l. The Vista Ignis will also have bits like ABS, 14-inch wheels, 175/65 tyres, twin airbags at the front, posh music system with wonders like Bluetooth and USB, steering wheel mounted controls and electrically adjustable mirrors.
The third launch is speculated to be a microvan in the likes of Maruti Omni. Here is another feast other than Penguin. Following the lines of Magic and Winger, Tata plans another commercial vehicle – And that is Pelican- it is just a codename actual name may differ, as claimed by Vicky.in (a leading auto blogsite). While Tata Pelican would be smaller than Winger, it will still be available in 5-seater and 8-seater configurations. Pelican will be powered by 1.4L Indica engine developing 70bhp of peak power at 4500rpm and 135Nm of peak torque at 2500rpm (the same engine that powers the Indica Vista 1.4 TDI). The Indirect Injection, turbo charged, intercooled is coupled with five speed transmission. With a claimed maximum speed of 125km/hr + pelican could be a good option for inter city travel too. Similar to winger and Omni, Pelican sports sliding doors at the sides. The dimensions of the Pelican are 3.9m in length, 1.5m wide and 1.8m taller. With a wheelbase of 2.1m, Pelican promises spacious cabin for occupants, as claimed by the blogsite.
