Bajaj Pulsar output to be ramped up to 90,000 per month at Chakan

After witnessing robust volumes of Pulsar, Bajaj Auto has decided to ramp-up its flagship model’s production to 90,000 units per month at Chakan in Maharashtra in the next six months with a sales target of one million units per annum by FY 2010-11 (next fiscal), reported PTI, citing a senior official of the company. It is to be mentioned that Bajaj Pulsar is a motorcycle brand owned by Bajaj Auto in India, developed by its product engineering division of in association with motorcycle designer Glynn Kerr Tokyo R&D. With monthly sales of more than 48,000 units in June 2009, Pulsar is the leader in the 150 cc segment in India with a market share of 43 per cent. Since the introduction and success of Bajaj Pulsar, Indian youth began expecting high power and other features from affordable motorcycles. The company, which sold 28,000 units of Pulsar per month (336,000 for the year) in FY 2008-09, is eyeing to clock 6 lakh units of the aforementioned model this fiscal at a monthly average of 50,000 units per month, he said.

"We are witnessing a resurgence of sales in Pulsar. From a low of 25,000 units sales per month last year, sales have now shot up to 45,000 units per month," Bajaj Auto's CEO for 2-Wheelers, S. Sridhar, told PTI, adding, The company has set an ambitious but achievable target of one million units for FY 11 and will ramp-up production at its Chakan unit to 90,000 units per month over the next six months, Sridhar said. He also told PTI that the company’s target is to up this to 85,000 units per month in FY 11 with the annual sales target pegged at one million units.

Bajaj Auto’s MD, Rajiv Bajaj Rajiv Bajaj had said quite earlier, "Pulsar is the culmination of our efforts to offer world class technology adapted for the Indian conditions that offers maximum value to our discerning customers. With Pulsar in our portfolio, we today offer the widest range of motorcycles at various price and performance points."

It may be recalled that apart from introducing its 2009 Pulsar 150 DTS-I and 180 DTS-I, the Pune-based company has also rolled out the 2009 Pulsar 220 edition. With this launch, Bajaj Auto has raised the bar in performance biking segment quite a few notches higher - the Pulsar 220 has now evolved to become the fastest Indian with the amazing top speed of 144 km/hr.
