The Tata Motors-owned Land Rover Discovery 4 has been awarded the 2009 ‘Scottish Car of the Year’’ by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) at its annual awards ceremony, just days before the 20th anniversary of the original Discovery.
More than 60 vehicles were put through their paces by the group on Scottish roads over the last 12 months and Discovery 4 received the most votes overall for its go-anywhere capability and premium package.
John Edwards, managing director for Land Rover UK added: “It's always fantastic to receive such recognition from the Industry, but to win the overall accolade of Scottish Car of the Year is a real privilege, especially when you consider the strength of the competition and the importance of the Scottish car market to our UK business. And the timing couldn't have been better – Discovery is 20 years old on November 16. It has certainly evolved over the years but it has always provided – and continues to provide – an unrivalled all-round package to customers.”
The Discovery 4 is on-sale now from £31,995 onwards and offers unbeatable versatility, capability and refinement. Alongside the fresh exterior design, the all-new interior, improved dynamics and the more powerful and more efficient 3.0-litre TDV6 powertrain, it also offers new state of the art user-friendly features such as a Surround Camera system, Gradient Release Control, Tow Assist, Automatic High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry and Push Button start.
Murray Dietsch, director of Land Rover product development, who collected the award said: “It is a huge pleasure to accept this important award on behalf of the Land Rover Product Development team. It is testament to the hard work and expertise of our Design and Engineering teams, and to the strength of automotive engineering in the UK.”
