A number of prospective car buyers who were hitherto looking for offers and discount packages would be extremely disappointed in the near future. Unlike last year, when most of the car companies were dishing out throwaway offers on various models, this year the picture is not that rosy. This is simply because buyers are not getting discounts at the dealer's end. The Economic Times has reported that hatchbacks such as Wagon R, Alto, Santro, i10, and Spark are set to be pricier by upto 10 per cent as most of them are witnessing a mammoth waiting period.
It has also been learnt from ET that Maruti Suzuki is looking to reduce the discount amount from WagonR from Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 15,000-20,000. Similarly, Hyundai India, which was offering nearly Rs. 36,500 on is i10 hatchback nearly a fortnight back, may bring it down considerably. Likewise, there was a Rs. 40,000-45,000 discount on GM India's Spark earlier. But now the company is expected to revise the discounted amount.
So why are most of the automobile companies not ready to lay a red carpet for those looking for discounts? The primary reason are the vanishing inventories. It was reported pretty recently that Maruti Suzuki's Ritz has a waiting period of upto 45 days. Its other models like Swift, Dzire, A-star, and other models are also experiencing a huge waiting period. Other car companies are also in the same boat. The other models which have a huge waiting period are Mahindra Xylo, Fiat Linea, Tata Indica Vista, Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Fortuner, etc.
