Machino Polymers & Borouge join hands to offer solutions in plastics for auto industry

In its bid to enhance the supply of advanced polypropylene (PP) materials to the Indian automotive industry, Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, is jointly working with Machino Polymers Limited, a leading supplier of PP compounds to the automotive industry in India. It is to be mentioned that Borouge is a joint venture between Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions and a major supplier of plastics solutions to the global automotive industry, and ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies.

The cooperation encompasses the use Borealis’ proprietary Borstar® technology resins to manufacture high performance, specialty polypropylene compounds in accordance with Machino Polymers’ compounding technology. High performance polypropylene compounds are used in the production of exterior and interior automotive components, including bumpers, instrument panels, door trim panels and other interior applications. The cooperation will facilitate the introduction of innovative automotive applications into the Indian market as well as new technology and cost-saving solutions originally developed by Borealis for the European market to support India’s increasing demand for automobiles.

“The scope of our ongoing discussions is to improve the capability of both companies in India“, comments Arjun Jindal, executive director of Machino Polymers. “This alliance towards a closer work relationship sits well in our overall growth strategy. By leveraging our respective competencies and maximising our resources we are confident the resulting synergies will ensure we are able to meet the developing needs of India’s growing automotive market.”

“The demand for vehicles is growing rapidly in India and Borouge is pleased to be able to evaluate these exciting opportunities together with Machino Polymers,” adds Pushp Raj Singhvi, Borouge’s regional manager for the Indian Sub-Continent. “Borouge benefits from Borealis’ extensive experience in developing high performance, cost-efficient solutions for the automotive industry and we will now be in a position to extend these advantages to this important market now and in the future.

“This is a significant step in Borouge’s strategy to be a reliable and responsive partner for the expanding Indian automotive industry,” says William Yau CEO of Borouge’s Marketing Company. “In conjunction with our compounding plant in Shanghai, China, this cooperation enhances our ability to develop value creating partnerships throughout the Asian automotive industry further.”

Machino Polymers is a leading supplier of polypropylene compounds for the automotive industry in India. It was established in the year 1994 and today has an installed capacity of 40,000 tonnes per year at its 5 acre plant in Gurgaon, Haryana, in North India. The company plans to be multi-location with facilities coming on line in Pune and Chennai within the next financial year. By becoming a regional supplier to their customers, the Company will be even closer to meet their individual requirements. Machino Polymers’ core strengths lie in its production quality and commitment to research and development of advanced PP compounds for future needs of the automotive market. The Machino Innovative Research Applications Centre (MIRAC) is recognized by the Indian Government’s Department of Science and Technology (DSIR). This underlines Machino Polymers’ capability to develop advanced materials for the future of the automotive industry in India.
