Skoda-SuperbSkoda-Superb

In its bid to reinforce its presence in the D-segment cars in the country, Skoda India is all set to launch the diesel version of its refurbished Superb during calendar year 2009, followed by the new Laura. The price of the upcoming diesel-powered Superb could not be ascertained, but the company has confirmed that it would be rolled out from its Chakan plant in Aurangabad in Maharshtra, along with Fabia and other upcoming models like upgraded Octavia, SUV Yeti, Roomster MPV, Fabia estate version, etc.

According to sources privy with the news, after launching an 1.8 litre-TSI engine, a turbo petrol whose fuel economy is almost at par with a diesel engine, Skoda India also come out with a 2 litre-TDI diesel engine and 3.2 litre V6, a 260 HP gasoline engine. The fuel efficiency of the car is 12-15 km/litre, sources added. Sources concluded by saying that Skoda India has already managed to sell 300 units of the recently-launched petrol-driven Superb, at Rs. 18.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Speaking at the sidelines of Superb’s launch in New Delhi, Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, Sales & Marketing, Škoda Auto India said, the company will launch new products, and will not only focus on giving more choices to its customers, but also offer them a new experience coupled with world-class technology. And with the all new Superb, it intends to give a 7 star experience to our customers. Further, keeping in mind the demand of its cars in India, Skoda expects to sell more than 1,000 units of the car by year end.

Skoda India’s sold 706 units in February, down 46 by per cent last year as the entire C segment had dropped by nearly 50 per cent.
