Sandero
Even though Renault India spokesperson has reaffirmed its parent company's investment plans for the country, The Hindu Business Line claims that is a remote possibility that the Indian arm of the French automaker will consider manufacturing its 5-door hatchback-Sandero, as it is finding it commercially infeasible at this point of time. It may be recalled that Renault India was earlier toying with the idea of jointly producing Sandero with Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) from Nashik in Maharashtra, where the combine is already manufacturing its entry-level sedan-Logan. Both the companies, have however, declined to offer any comments regarding the latest buzz.
It is to be mentioned that last week, a senior representative of Renault India has told The Hindu Business Line that the company is cautious and the initial mid-2010 deadline for product roll-out, including Sandero may not be adhered to. He was quoted as saying to the aforesaid financial daily that the parent company was giving utmost priority to its cash flow position, which naturally meant that global investments would have to be done in a prudent manner.
Currently, Renault Sandero (based on the Logan platform), is being built in Brazil, Romania and Columbia and is also first vehicle Renault has introduced in any place other than Europe. If launched, the medium size hatchback would have been available in both petrol and diesel versions and sources said the engines was also proposed to be finetuned in a way to attract lower excise duties.
