WWL sets up its Indian subsidiary at Chennai

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), the car carrier and roll-on, roll-off operator, has recently announced the establishment of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (India) Private Limited in Chennai. Establishing an office in India will enable WWL to be more active in responding to OEM's requests for developing logistics solutions.

The new office demonstrates WWL's continued commitment to India. WWL aims to establish a long term presence in India covering its five core products: Ocean Transportation, Terminal Services, Technical Services, Inland Distribution and Supply Chain Management (SCM).

WWL brings to India its experience and expertise from other markets in transporting automobiles, RoRo and break-bulk cargo across the world from factory to dealer.

The company is looking at exploring opportunities in India in areas of Automobile/RoRo Terminal development, Terminal Management, Yard Management and PDI activities at car plants, inland distribution of finished vehicles and the establishment of a dedicated ocean product.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) is a leading independent provider of global factory-to-dealer transport solutions for the automotive, agricultural and construction equipment industries. It is a privately-owned Norwegian/Swedish shipping company, established in 1999 and co-owned by the two shipping companies Wallenius Lines and Wilh. Wilhelmsen.

The company also specialises in handling complex project cargoes such as rail cars, power generators, mining equipment and yachts. The company offers a range of logistics services, including supply chain management, ocean transportation, terminal handling, inland distribution and technical services. It is one of the world's largest companies within transporting of rolling equipment; automobiles, heavy machinery (mining, construction, farming equipment), yachts, trains, power stations etc. Headquartered in Oslo and Stockholm, with main regional offices in New York, Tokyo and Sydney, the company has 3,300 employees worldwide.

On 29th October, 2008 Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics received the distinguished Norwegian American Trade Award for 2008 from the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce.
