A new crossover vehicle - between Indigo Sedan and Safari SUV is now on the cards at Tatas. Christened 'Indicruz' it is expected to be retailed between Rs. 7-11 lakh. The vehicle is believed to be based on the recently-launched Indica Vista platform, for which the company is said to have pumped in Rs. 1, 700 crore (as reported earlier).
Once it hits the Indian roads by next year, it is tipped to be pitted against Toyota Innova, General Motors' Tavera and Mahindra's soon- to- be- launched Ingenio. Sources have also revealed that India's largest automobile company is inclined to position the vehicle between its Sumo Grande and Safari Dicor SUV.
It was earlier reported that the car is likely to be an 8-seater car, with both petrol (expected to be sourced from Fiat Motors) and diesel versions. Moreover, chances are highly likely that the upcoming muti-seater car would be equipped with the same 2.2 litre Dicor engine strapped onto Safari and Sumo Grande. In addition to that, this Variable Turbine Technology (VTT) is anticipated to come with a 5-speed gearbox. Furthermore, it might also get the four wheel drive system as an add- on.
Just like any Innova, the vehicle will be architecturally similar to a sports utility vehicle, with the comfort of a top-notch sedan, without compromising its fuel-efficiency. Power windows, central locking, remote boot, remote fuel filler, rear wiper and rear defogger would be the standard features of Indicruz. It could come with a varied number of engine options, right from Euro 3 to Euro 4 spec petrol and diesel engines. Space is a hallmark with more than enough room for 7 adults. The company has yet not revealed the production unit from where the car would be rolled out.
