IBM Study reveals Indian auto industry to be No.1 by 2020

According to a study by IBM, the Indian automobile industry will be at the pinnacle of global auto industry by 2020. India has been reckoned as the global leader with Tata Motors ruling the roost by rolling out groundbreaking products like Nano. The study had interview nearly 125 executives belonging to various original equipment manufacturers, auto component suppliers and their parties in 15 countries. Availability of abundant young technical manpower has been cited as the contributing factor for the industry's growth. India's leadership in innovation is expected to be more towards service-based offerings, both for the domestic market as well as the overseas market.

"It is abundantly clear that the Indian automotive industry will have arrived as a leader on the global automotive stage by 2020," IBM said in its study Automotive 2020 Clarity Beyond Chaos. It also added that India would continue to cast a long shadow on the dynamics of redistribution of work across the global automotive landscape.

According to IBM Automotive Industry vice-president global leader Sanjay Rishi, the Tata Nano manifested India's ability to innovate. It has increased India's stature in the global automotive stage. India would play a significant role in rebalancing of core product development vis-à-vis application development, he added.
